Sips, Bites, and Igloo Nights: A Festive Experience at Sign of the Whale

sign of the whaleNestled along the waterfront in Stamford’s vibrant Harbor Point, Sign of the Whale offers more than just a dining experience—it’s a destination. Known as Fairfield County’s premier rooftop spot and an award-winning restaurant, it combines exceptional food with stunning views. What drew us in this season was their buzz-worthy transformation into Winter Wonder Whale—a festive spectacle featuring rooftop igloos, over 10,000 twinkling lights, and 20,000 shimmering ornaments. Whether you’re brunching under the skyline or sipping cocktails surrounded by holiday magic, Sign of the Whale delivers a one-of-a-kind experience.

Settling into our cozy, lounge-style igloo, we couldn’t resist diving into the seasonal cocktail menu—a true highlight of the Winter Wonder Whale experience. First up was the Merry Margarita, a festive twist on a classic, crafted with El Jimador tequila, triple sec, lime juice, agave, and a splash of cranberry juice for a vibrant seasonal touch. Next, we tried the Milk & Cookies Old Fashioned, a nostalgic yet sophisticated blend of Doughball cookie dough whiskey, Baileys, and chocolate bitters, served with two freshly baked cookies for a playful pairing. Finally, the Winter White Cosmo stole the show with its refreshing mix of Tito’s vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and delicate white cranberry juice—perfectly crisp and winter-ready. Each sip felt like a little celebration of the season.

To accompany our festive drinks, we indulged in a variety of appetizers that set the stage for a truly memorable meal:
  • Whipped Local Ricotta: Creamy and rich, paired perfectly with white truffle oil, a honey drizzle, and grilled bread.
  • Crispy Brussels Sprouts: Smoky bacon, parmesan, and a creamy Caesar drizzle elevated this dish to next-level comfort food.
  • Chipotle Beef Empanadas: A delicious blend of bold flavors, served with salsa verde and a spicy aioli for just the right amount of heat.
  • Garlic Parmesan Wings: A savory, flavorful favorite that hit all the right notes.
  • Jumbo Coconut Shrimp: Lightly crispy and packed with flavor, served with soy lime aioli, sweet chili sauce, and a sprinkling of toasted coconut and sesame seeds.
For the main course, we didn’t hold back, exploring an impressive lineup of entrées:
  • Roasted Chicken “Half Bird”: Tender and flavorful, served with garlic whipped potatoes, green beans, wild mushrooms, chicken au jus, and a touch of garlic aioli.
  • Iron Skillet New York Sirloin: Perfectly cooked steak paired with gorgonzola mashed potatoes, wilted spinach, and a luscious cabernet wine reduction.
  • Crispy Skin Atlantic Salmon: Served over crushed fingerling potatoes and baby spinach, topped with shrimp scampi sauce, crispy shrimp, and a bright lemon preserve.
  • Herb Pan-Roasted Meat Platter for Two: A true feast featuring a 13oz New York strip steak, Berkshire pork chop, fennel-garlic sausage, roasted chicken half bird, wild mushroom confit, garlic parmesan fries, and sautéed green beans, finished with a rich cabernet wine reduction.
And because no meal is complete without dessert, we topped off our dining experience with:
  • A decadent Seven-Layer Chocolate Cake
  • Creamy Cheesecake drizzled with caramel sauce
Each dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and perfect for sharing—or savoring all to yourself.
